What is Yoga?

A systematic method of healing which uses breath control, meditation and specific body postures to balance the mind and body. Yoga improves the body’s physical and mental health to clear the mind in preparation for meditation.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the intentional practice of enhancing awareness in the present moment with ourselves and our surroundings; using breath as the anchor. Deep breathing exercises and self-reflection allow us to pause and respond constructively to any given circumstance. Combined with yoga and other mindful movement, mindfulness tools help individuals cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and adopt healthy habits.

Class Descriptions

Yoga is the balancing of mind and body through physical postures or “asanas”, purification practices, controlled breathing, and the calming of the mind through relaxation, and meditation. Asanas teach poise, balance, and strength to improve the body’s physical health and clear the mind in preparation for meditation.

Restorative yoga is the centering of your breath and body through supported postures or gentle movement, deep breathing,  and aligning the physical using props. Asanas and mindful movement teach spacial awareness, strength, and balance in helping to regulate the body's nervous system.

UYF offers participants the freedom and the instruction of a basic yoga practice and our teachers may teach asana or vinyasa to help students understand the value of a sustainable yoga practice. Teachers integrate yoga, art, music, and mindfulness based activities into a holistic healing arts experience. Come with us on an intimate journey to wellness.
